Lighting Technician Certificate

The Lighting Technician Certificate is designed to provide the student with enhanced occupational competency as a general theatre technician specializing in lighting, for theatrical productions, corporate events, theme parks, television, and film studios. This advanced certificate requires completion of the Technical Theatre Certificate (18-23 units) plus additional advanced courses for a total of 37.5-49.5 units. At least one-half of the units toward the certificate must be completed at Fullerton College. All courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.

Student Learning Outcomes

Outcome 1: Identify and explain the documentation required to implement the lighting for a theatrical production.

Outcome 2: Operate and evaluate theatrical lighting equipment by participating in the practices of hanging, circuiting and focusing for actual productions.

Outcome 3: Relate and explain the processes inherent in the theatrical lighting design process.

Outcome 4: Identify, describe, and define terminology commonly associated with theatrical lighting.

Outcome 5: Analyze and evaluate the lighting requirements of a play or musical.

Outcome 6: Recognize and apply various methodologies to safely troubleshoot lighting, sound, rigging, scenic, and show control equipment.
