This course is a survey of the arts of India, China and Japan from prehistory through the 19th century. It examines the role of the visual arts in relation to society, religion, and history, while identifying major themes and techniques in these arts. Classroom presentations are supplemented by gallery and museum visits. 54 hours lecture per term.
