Edgar Rothermich is a composer, audio engineer, and author of the best-selling book series “Graphically Enhanced Manuals” with over 17 books for various software applications like Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, and Final Cut Pro. He joined the Fullerton College faculty in 2017 and is also Professor at Loyola Marymount University in the the Recording Arts program of the School of Film and Television.



Born in Germany, Edgar Rothermich studied music and sound engineering at the prestigious
Tonmeister program at the Berlin Institute of Technology (TU) and the University of the Arts
(UdK) in Berlin where he graduated with a Master's Degree summa cum laude. For five years he
was also teaching audio production courses at the University.



Edgar Rothermich worked as a composer and music producer in Berlin, and moved to Los
Angeles in 1991 where he continued his work on numerous projects in the music and film
industry ("The Celestine Prophecy", "Outer Limits", "Babylon 5", “Big Brother”, Amazing Race”,
"Big Money Rustlas”, “Universal Soldier”, “Hooligans” ”What the Bleep Do We Know").



For over 20 years, Edgar has had a successful musical partnership with electronic music
pioneer and founding Tangerine Dream member Christopher Franke, recording and producing
all his film scores and solo albums during that time with co-composer credits on some of the
projects.



Since 2010, Edgar Rothermich has released four of his own CDs for solo piano and various
electronica styles. He also re-recorded soundtracks for BXS Records and Perseverance Records.
For example, Silent Hill (video game) and the official Blade Runner soundtrack, which achieved
critical acclaim from critics and fans alike ("Best of 2012 Classic Film Scores" by Film Music
Society). On Spotify alone, his records reached over 5 Million streams with 25 thousands
listeners monthly.



In addition to 100s of scores for film and television, Edgar Rothermich composed ballet music
for various dance companies and in 2012, was commissioned the “Mömlinger Messe” a 25
minutes mass for organ, choir, and four vocalists.



As an educator, Edgar Rothermich is writing technical manuals with a unique style, focusing on
rich graphics and diagrams to explain concepts and functionality of software applications
under his popular GEM series (Graphically Enhanced Manuals). His best-selling titles are
available as printed books on Amazon, as interactive multi-touch eBooks on Apple's iBooks
Store, and as pdf downloads from his website. In the same graphically enhanced style, he is
writing in-depth tutorials for the Logic Pro Expert website and Pro Tools Expert website, the
number one independent Pro Tools user site in the world with over 5 million visits per year. In
addition, for his popular YouTube channel "Music Tech Explained - the visual approach", he is
releasing highly-produced instructional 4k videos about music technology.
